A Galloping Celebration of the Horse at LFS!

What incredible energy across our two campuses! Carried by the dynamic spirit of the Fire Horse, our school community came alive to the rhythm of drums, songs, artistic performances, and creatively reimagined traditions.

The Festivities Begin: The Grand Gala from our event committee

The week of festivities began with a wonderful moment of togetherness, organized by the the parent volunteers from our events committes of Qingpu and Yangpu.

Gathered at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, families, students, and staff launched the celebrations in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

An exceptional buffet, performances, cultural workshops, and family games set the tone for the week, marking the start of celebrations under the sign of the Horse.

heartfelt thank you to the committed parent volunteers for creating such a unifying event, and to the students who shone on stage and helped make this opening celebration a true collective success.

Primary Students Shine: A Burst of Joy and Creativity

▪ At Yangpu

The celebration opened in a burst of color with the lion and dragon dances.

Horse-inspired dances, traditional instrumental performances, and powerful drumming followed, showcasing the students’ energy and commitment. A spectacular mask-changing performance captivated the audience before the New Year songs gradually brought all classes together on stage.

The grand finale, featuring nearly 400 students, offered a powerful display of cohesion, pride, and shared joy.

▪ At Qingpu

The primary school performance alternated between collective singing, traditional dances, and martial arts demonstrations, creating a lively and festive rhythm.

Students shared the stage with invited performers presenting acrobatic acts, balancing feats, juggling, and performances with traditional props, adding a spectacular dimension to the celebration.

The final song, uniting all primary school students, concluded the performance in a warm and unifying atmosphere.

Exhibitions and Workshops: When Art Extends the Celebration

▪ At Yangpu: A Sino-Latin Dialogue Around the Horse

For the Year of the Horse, 8th- and 10th-grade SIC students and Latin students carried out an original intercultural project: creating reproductions of ancient Chinese and Greco-Roman artworks depicting the horse.

Reliefs, aluminum paintings, engravings, prints, and reproductions of coins and Greek medallions transformed the piazza into an exhibition space where Chinese and Greco-Roman heritage meet. Each piece reflects the students’ curiosity, precision, and creativity.

▪ At Qingpu: An Artistic Journey for All Ages

The high school art exhibition invited everyone on a true visual journey: delicate prints, elegant calligraphy, horse-themed paintings, three-dimensional creations, and contemporary installations highlighted a harmonious meeting of tradition and modernity.

The magic extended to the youngest students as well: steudents from kindergarten immersed themselves in New Year traditions through hands-on workshops: shadow theatre, making dumplings and tangyuan, printing and crafting horse-themed art, traditional games, sugar painting, face painting, and paper cutting.

Creating, handling, tasting, and experimenting: a lively, joyful, and sensory celebration of Chinese culture that enchanted both young and old.

And finally, as every year, the week culminated in a spectacular finale with the traditional dragon and lion dances outdoors, performed alongside students from the Deutsche Schule Shanghai. This breathtaking moment marked the start of the Chinese New Year holiday!
