Our Athletes Are on Fire: All Wins and Medals This Season

Our Athletes Are on Fire: All Wins and Medals This Season

As December approaches, there’s one area where our students have truly gone above and beyond since the start of the school year: competitive sports within our ASC (extracurricular activities) program. Between local and international competitions, the podium finishes keep coming, and the momentum is still going strong. Here’s a look back at the standout performances so far.

Two Types of Sports Competitions at Shanghai French School

Local Leagues: Over 400 Matches a Year!

With more than 400 matches and tournaments taking place each year in Shanghai and nearby cities (Suzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing), students enrolled in ASC competitions enjoy an exceptional sporting experience that helps them grow on the field, and far beyond.

Six major sports leagues set the pace of our year, with demanding competitions as well as friendlies that nurture a genuine love of sport:

-Y League: Competitive football for passionate players.

– SISAC (Shanghai International Schools Activities Conference, 3ème to Terminale): Badminton, basketball, cross-country, football, athletics, table tennis, volleyball.

– CISSA (China International Schools Sports Association, CM2 to 4ème): Badminton, basketball, cross-country, football, volleyball, athletics, touch rugby, table tennis, and ultimate frisbee.

– SSSA (Shanghai Schools Sports Association, 6ème to Terminale): Badminton, cross-country, football, swimming, volleyball.

– SSL (Shanghai Swimming League): Swimming-focused competitions across all age groups.

– ISOCL (International School Online Chess League): The perfect arena for sharp strategic thinkers.

Asia-Pacific Championships (PROZAP): High-Intensity Weeks Across the Region

Every year, our students get the chance to travel throughout Asia to represent the school in the AEFE Asia-Pacific competitions.

As our football players prepare to fly to Bangkok for the first PROZAP of the year, selections continue across other disciplines:

– Our swimmers gave everything to secure a spot for PROZAP Singapore.

– Our U18 and U19 beach volleyball and basketball teams are training hard to make the final selection this weekend.

– Badminton is under even more pressure this year: representing Shanghai at home. Shanghai French School will host the Asia-Pacific Badminton Championship (CAPB) next March.

Selections are demanding. Those who make it learn discipline, teamwork, how to handle both wins and setbacks, and above all, determination.

We’re off to a strong start in both divisions of the Shanghai league, with our Division 1 girls making it to the final. Our other teams land solid top 5 finishes, out of a total of 20 schools in the league.

Behind every medal, every trip, and every training session are students pushing their limits, coaches supporting and guiding them, and a whole community cheering them on. Their passion brings energy to our school and reminds us of a simple truth: at Shanghai French School, sport brings people together, inspires growth, and shapes character. And we’re only at the beginning of the year.
